Artist's Comments

"It's cold outside today. The kind of bitter, windblown cold that makes me want to stay inside with a mug of hot chocolate, the marshmallows melting and dancing around the surface. In the land of enchantment, gray skies are always frowned upon. As I turn my gaze upwards into the falling snow, the gray sky looks forlorn and forgotten. Like Cain, it does its part but is dismissed. The fruits of its labor are less than welcome. Bitter and resentful, it howls at us. It throws its mighty winds amongst us, screaming, "Love me! Love me!" In response, we turn our collars up, bury our faces in our garments and quicken our step. Weeping, its cold tears turn to crystalline ice ballerinas, skating their way down through the clouds and on currents of air they twirl, pirouette, curtsey and gracefully melt into uniformity on the ungrateful cement."

-Tom Patton

This piece was done for my conceptual illustration class. I based it on the short prose that my good friend Tom wrote. Also, credit for the tree scenery: [ScWeeGee-Boy-Stock]

I really love this piece. I was wondering if you would be ok with me using it for a class? I am taking an Intro to Creative Writing course, and my instructor asked that we find a painting or piece of art that speaks to us, and write a poem. I would love to use your piece! If you do allow me to, I was wondering if I could also get your name, for citing purposes. Thank you either way!
